Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill
- A 182-metre (597 ft) volcanic peak in Auckland
- An important memorial place for both Maori and other New Zealanders. The suburb around the base of the hill is also called One Tree Hill.
- It is surrounded by the suburbs of Royal Oak to the west, and clockwise, Epsom, Greenlane, Oranga, and Onehunga.
- The summit provides views across the Auckland area and allows visitors to see both of Auckland's harbours.
- The Maori name Maungakiekie means "mountain of the kiekie vine".
- Maori also knew it as "t??tara that stands alone".
- The mountain and its surrounds were home to the Te Wai ?? Hua tribe from the early 1700s and probably before that time.
- Other Maori tribes in the Auckland area can also trace their ancestry to the mountain.

Mount Eden
- Mount Eden (Maungawhau) is a scoria cone in the Mount Eden suburb of Auckland, New Zealand.
- The cone is a dormant volcano and its summit, at 196 metres (643 ft) above sea level, is the highest natural point on the Auckland isthmus.
- The volcano erupted from three craters 28,000 years ago, with the last eruptions from the southern crater filling the northern craters.
- Maungawhau means the 'Mountain of the whau tree' in Maori. 'Mount Eden' honours George Eden, 1st Earl of Auckland.
- The crater is called Te Ipu-a-Mataaho (the bowl of Mataaho); Mataaho was a deity said to live in the crater and to be the guardian of the secrets hidden in the earth.
