- A Polynesian sovereign state and archipelago comprising 169 islands, of which 36 are inhabited
- The total surface area is about 750 square kilometres scattered over 700,000 square kilometres of the southern Pacific Ocean
- As of 2016, the state had a population of 100,651 people

Alfred Henry Burton
- c. 1834 – 2 February 1914
- He is considered one of New Zealand's most important photographers
- He was born in Leicester, England but his birth year is known uncertain
- His father (John Burton) was also a photographer
- Burton emigrated to New Zealand in 1868 to join his brother Walter John Burton (Walter had a studio in Dunedin)
- Burton Brothers built up a strong portfolio of landscape images of New Zealand
