- Close to the mouth of the Motueka River
- The second largest centre in the Tasman Region
- A population of 7125 (2006 census)
- The surrounding district has a number of orchards
- Also growing a variety of specialised crops such as hops
- Formerly serving as the main centre of tobacco growing in New Zealand
- A number of small vineyards have developed
Tasman District
- Local government district in the north of the South Island
- Covering 9,786 square kilometres and is bounded on the west by the Matiri Ranges, Tasman Mountains and the Tasman Sea
- Tasman Bay was named after Dutch seafarer, explorer and merchant Abel Tasman
