David Gusscott – Tomoana Freezing Works
- In 1883 he established the company, Nelson Brothers Limited, and work began that resulted in the first frozen meat shipment leaving the Port of Napier in March 1884 on the ship 'Turakina'.
- It comprised 9,000 frozen carcasses from Tomoana.
- Initially, the plant was designed to kill 400 sheep a day.
