Description

New Zealand - Cambridge - This monster eel weighing 7.7 kg and 121 cm long was caught by David and Michael Darling of Leamington when fishing in the Karapiro Creek below Thornton Road in August 1969. Twice the eel broke the line before it was hooked for a third time and landed after a struggle that lasted 30 minutes. Shown here are Mark Johnston, John Northcott, David and Michael Darling and Clinton Watkins as they proudly display the eel outside the Waikato Independent office in Duke Street. - 1969 - Buckingham, Reg photo Image source: Boys with monster eel, Waikato Independent Office, Duke Street, Cambridge, August 1969 Cambridge Museum Creative Commons - Attribution - Non-commercial https://ehive.com/collections/3252/objects/1744313/boys-with-monster-eel-waikato-independent-office-duke-street-cambridge-august-1969 #cambridge
