Waipawa
- The second-largest town in Central Hawke's Bay
- Has a population of 2,170 (June 2019)
- Located 7 kilometres northeast of Waipukurau
- Settled in the early 1860s
- The Settler's Museum exhibits many of these historical collections.
- Originally called Abbotsford
- Waipawa has two marae affiliated with the iwi of Ngāti Kahungunu.
- The Mataweka Marae and Nohomaiterangi meeting house are affiliated with the hapū of Ngāi Toroiwaho and Ngāti Whatuiāpiti.

Alfred Henry Burton
- c. 1834 – 2 February 1914
- He is considered one of New Zealand's most important photographers
- He was born in Leicester, England but his birth year is known uncertain
- His father (John Burton) was also a photographer
- Burton emigrated to New Zealand in 1868 to join his brother Walter John Burton (Walter had a studio in Dunedin)
- Burton Brothers built up a strong portfolio of landscape images of New Zealand
