New Zealand - Raurimu Township
- A view of the Raurimu township in 1911. Construction of the Raurimu Spiral played a part in the settlement of Raurimu. The original settlement developed from a surveyor’s camp – Pukerimu. Raurimu was an accommodation point for transient railway workers employed to construct the Raurimu Spiral, these workers lived in calico tents, little evidence remains of their camp today. The current settlement was created to accommodate sawmilling workers once the North Island Main Trunk line had been completed with the construction of the Raurimu Spiral.
