New Zealand - Cullensville, Mahakipawa, Marlborough, ca 1890 - View of the gold-mining town of Cullensville in the Mahakipawa Valley, Marlborough County. A big strike was made in the Cullen Creek in 1888 and a township with a school, post office, three hotels and five stores rapidly developed. The photographer, Wellington businessman Henry Wright, had business interests here. - Photographer: Wright, Henry Charles Clarke The Marlborough Region - Known simply as Marlborough, is one of the regions of New Zealand - Located in the northeast of the South Island - A unitary authority, both a region and a district - Marlborough District Council is based at Blenheim, the largest town. - Has population of 49,200 (2019) - Known for its dry climate - It takes its name from the earlier Marlborough Province, which was named after His Grace General The 1st Duke of Marlborough, an English general and statesman.
