- View of the gold-mining town of Cullensville in the Mahakipawa Valley, Marlborough County. A big strike was made in the Cullen Creek in 1888 and a township with a school, post office, three hotels and five stores rapidly developed. The photographer, Wellington businessman Henry Wright, had business interests here.

- It takes its name from the earlier Marlborough Province, which was named after His Grace General The 1st Duke of Marlborough, an English general and statesman.
