It marks the end of 112 years of 'borough' status and records the birth of the Maungakiekie Ward, one of ten wards forming the new Auckland City. - In just a few decades we have come a long way: entered the space age, experienced a world of high technology with communication by satellite, followed with interest journeys to the moon, and witnessed many more achievements than could ever have been dreamed of by those early pioneers. - Still, one cannot help but read these pages with a sense of nostalgia for those long past days, and be left with a feeling of great respect and admiration for the early settlers.
